Britain's Best Young Artist
A new art show starts on CBBC this month called Britain's Best young Artist, and guess what...I am a guest judge! The show will run every Monday - Thursday from the 7th until the 24th February at 6pm. My episode, which focuses on still life, is on Thursday 10th at 6pm, and If you miss it, it will also be available on BBC iplayer.
Kaiser Chiefs frontman and former art teacher, Ricky Wilson, teams up with award-winning BBC Radio 1 presenter, Vick Hope for the show, which sees 27 budding young artists from around the UK compete to be crowned Britain’s Best Young Artist. It was great to see Ricky again, I'd not seen him since doing the album cover in 2012, it was good to have a friendly face on set as I was a little bit nervous!
The show sees the wannabe artists having to impress Ricky and the guest judge, who will be on hand to critique the finished artwork and decide who moves onto the next round. Along with myself, joining Ricky as a guest judge will be world-class artists including Alison Lapper, Simeon Barclay, Si Mitchell and many more.
Those that make the semi-finals are commissioned to create an original piece of art for celebrities including, Dr Alex George; racing driver, Jamie Chadwick and former Blue Peter presenter, Lindsey Russell. The series culminates with the grand finale, in which the top 3 artists have to draw on all of their creative skills and experience to produce a winning masterpiece which best depicts their hometown. Out of 3 semi-finalists, there can only be one winner who goes on to be crowned Britain’s Best Young Artist and win the prize of their final masterpiece displayed at an art gallery in their hometown.
It was such a fun experience and I can't wait to watch my episode, although the young artists were so good, it made judging really hard!
I think it will really inspire young people to get creative, and I'm thrilled to have been a part of it, to be on an art show on the BBC was a dream of mine since I was a kid watching the legend Tony Hart!
