Hitchin Bird upcoming exhibition
My next show 'Hitchin Bird' at The Art Nest, Hitchin, opens on Friday 12th September; with the opening night on Thursday 11th September (if you'd like to attend please RSVP to the gallery on firstname.lastname@example.org). The show will run until the end of the month.
Last year I was invited to exhibit at my local gallery 'The Art Nest', so I took the opportunity to make some work I'd had on my mind for a while. Loose acrylic paintings of birds contrasting against bold block colour. The paintings flew (sorry!) out of the gallery, so given how popular they were, gallery director Emmeline Webb invited me to exhibit more again this year.
For 'Hitchin Bird' I've produced another set of very colourful acrylic framed canvases of found bird images that appealed to me. I use quite a fast and free approach, unlike my far more carefully constructed photorealist peices. I prefer to paint them without over-thinking, or thinking at all, and the more immediate pieces that somehow just happen always seem to be the more successful pieces. It's important to me that this work is affordable, prices for these (small!) originals range from £350-£1650.
There will also be a couple of very rare one off boxes canvas prints of previous photorealist 'bird' work (toy budgies and rubber ducks!) alongside paper prints of many of the framed acrylic original birds in the show. I'll be there on the opening night, chatting and drinking bubbles, so I do hope you can join me.
